Field notes | Eggs single or in tight clusters up to 8, rhizomorphs white. Egg generally rounded but vary from rather spherical to twice as wide as high. Outer surface of sac very thin, cream to pale brown, sometimes suffused purple. Column 2-4 cm high x 2-3 cm across, white to off-white, often suffused with pale red, especially beneath arms, soft-textured. Fruiting body to 8 cm across (includes tip of arms). Upper 3/4 of the arms are pale red, lower 1/4 often same colour as the disc. Disc mid red. Gleba brown. Sweetly foetid, does not smell of rotting meat. |

Occurrence remarks | The following species were present on 23 April: Mycena viscidocruenta, Psathyrella sp., and Psilocybe subaeruginosa. Fruiting bodies produced regularly between mid January and 23 April. Fruiting bodies were collected every few days between this period. Known at this site for several years. |
