Occurrence remarks A small shrub to 1.5 m tall. Most shrubs to 3 m, but older planted trees to 6 m in the gardens. Leaves dimorphic, adult leaves and juvenile leaves differing. Juvenile leaves are ovate-cordate to ovate-lanceolate, more or less dentate or serrate; adult leaves lanceolate to elliptical, entire or finely serrulate. CFA Region 15 map on p 114. Locality Township of Castlemaine, near the Froomes Street bridge crossing of Barkers Creek, on the N side of the Botanic Gardens.
Supplied as "Growing beneath *Ulmus X hollandica above the creek in shade. Numerous plants from seedlings to adult plants found naturalised over a wide area throughout the European Garden section of the Gardens and throughout the Eucalyptus microcarpa woodland section. Commonly found at bases of trees and evidently spread by birds."
