Occurrence remarks Locally common (>50 plants) herb to 1.1 m high. Some plants fasciated. Milky sap arises from damaged parts. Some plants with Puccinia chondrillina Bubák. Stems with white to pale brown stiff hairs at base. Stem leaves and stems grey-green. Basal leaves dead at this time. Inner involucral bracts 8, grey-green. Flowerheads with butter-yellow ligulate florets with 5 teeth at the tip. Style butter yellow, bilobed. Stamens butter yellow, free at the base and joined around the style. Cypselas starting to form, fusiform, with white pappus at apex of beak. Cypselas with this collection collected on 11 December 2009 from plants growing at the same location. Supplied as "c. 3 degree slope. Greywacke substrate. Red-brown clay (hard setting) – probably subsoil dumped on top of topsoil. Weedy vacant block where growing with Salsola australis R.Br., Plantago lanceolata L., Centaurea solstitialis L., Echium plantagineum L., Verbena caracasana Kunth, Lepidium africanum (Burm.f.) DC., Austrostipa scabra (Lindl.) S.W.L.Jacobs & J.Everett subsp. scabra, Vittadinia muelleri N.T.Burb., Hirschfeldia incana (L.) Lagr.-Foss. and Rapistrum rugosum (L.) All."
