Occurrence remarks | Laurel Clock Vine, Thunbergia laurifolia. Rampant climbing weed. Mullumbimby, NSW, Australia, August 2019. Laurel Clock Vine appears similar to Bengal Trumpet, Thunbergia grandiflora. The leaves of laurifolia are oval-shaped, 8-15cm long and 2.5-5.5cm wide, with almost entire margins and a pointed tip. grandiflora has leaves with lobed margins and a long acute apex, almost triangular. Flowers are trumpet-shaped, blue-violet with a white or pale yellow throat. Note that Thunbergia grandiflora is also sometimes known as Blue Trumpet Vine. See Starr, F. et al. (2003).
